Lodging choices are slim in this small Texas town and Budget Motel's rates are about half that of the nicer places, but it is an awful place to stay. I'd give it zero stars if I could. Not only is everything threadbare, but I came across roaches and a giant spider carrying thousands of baby spiders on her back in my room. The pool's foul. Housekeeping "threw out" (read, took home) all the toiletries I'd set in the bathroom and the manager/owner refused to compensate me for the cost to replace them. I had to change rooms because whoever was staying in the one next door was playing loud Houston-style syrup music at all hours of the night and had so many visitors coming and going I'm sure he was distributing drugs. To top it all off, I had booked a check in and check out date in advance (standard procedure when planning a trip, right?). I returned to my room late the night before I was to check out only to find that my key card didn't work. When I went to the front desk to report the situation, they said they'd given my room away to someone else. My suitcase had been packed by them and was sitting in the motel office. Who does that?! They said I "hadn't paid" but I paid for my requested stay in the beginning when I checked in with a credit card. Due to the fact that they rent by the week to people who use it as a temporary "residence" they apparently have some crazy billing system and didn't actually charge me for my full stay when I checked in. I was apparently expected to know this. They didn't have any empty rooms available and were completely unsympathetic to the fact that I had no place to sleep that night. The manager/owner even raised her voice at me. I have to visit Madisonville on occasion, but I will never stay here again. Ever.
